Munich Re, Caribbean Services Contact Info

Welcome to the Caribbean section of our site!
The Canadian Life and Health operations of Munich Re are responsible for the development and the servicing of life insurance companies in countries comprised in the Caribbean (including Bermuda, Suriname, Guyana and Belize).

The Caribbean life insurance market has long been considered a natural extension of the Canadian market, and there are many historical ties to Canada. Recently, many of the region's jurisdictions have adopted regulations that were strongly influenced by what has happened in Canada and others have announced their intention to do so in the future.

A unique expertise
Being Canadian-based, it gives us a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing Caribbean life insurers. No matter if the issue relates to acquisitions, territorial expansion or new business opportunities, we are able to leverage our expertise for the benefit of our clients. When it comes to the use of reinsurance to assist with capital and earnings management, acquisitions or solving problems through the use of financial reinsurance, Munich Re is the provider of choice in the Caribbean.

Our treaty products
Munich Re can provide you with reinsurance solutions for:

  • Individual Life
  • Group Benefits
  • Living Benefits
  • Individual and Group Health
  • Financial Reinsurance

A commitment to the market
Since our Canadian office took over the responsibility for the market in 1998, we have steadily increased the level of resources dedicated to servicing our clients in the region. In late 2003, because of the remarkable growth in our client base and in new business, we decided that we needed a person to focus full time on business development, administration and customer relationship management. Jose Nicolas was subsequently hired as Regional Director, Caribbean, to coordinate our business development activities and client service work.

Our commitment to the region was further demonstrated in January 2005 when Munich Re entered the Caribbean health reinsurance market through a partnership with International Reinsurance Managers (IRM).

Caribbean Operations Support
Client support from Munich Re goes beyond reinsurance assistance in areas such as pricing and product development, with our experts in the areas of Underwriting and Claims providing customized support.

With the exception of underwriting support, which is performed in our Toronto office, all other functions (product development support, pricing, claims, accounting and administration) are performed in our Montréal office. When time is precious, you can count on a prompt, efficient response as our staff is readily available by phone or through electronic communication. We also make regular visits to your offices and participate fully in industry meetings.

Over the years we have helped our customers in the implementation of best practices in all areas, especially in the critical area of underwriting. Munich Re has accumulated a wealth of information and sound knowledge of the regional markets in the field of medical underwriting enabling us to provide timely advice when dealing with difficult cases. Munich Re can help you develop underwriting requirements, policy contract language, applications and claim forms. We also provide training workshops and case clinics.

Our customers fully appreciate our ability to recognize the special circumstances that may arise when writing business in the Caribbean.
